Scratch Corn Whiskey by Springfield Distillery in Halifax VA

Springfield Distillery’s SCRATCH Corn Whiskey is produced exclusively from grains grown in Virginia. With a mash bill of 80% corn and 20% malted barley and bottled at 45% alcohol by volume (90 proof), this combination of corn and malted barley produces a spirit that is reminiscent of the pre-prohibition distillers and their unique cultural heritage in the southern Virginia backwoods. Scots-Irish immigrants were the first to introduce their recipe for their “uisce beatha”, Gaelic for “water of life” to the area and the settlers made their whiskey without aging it in oak barrels, and this is the same recipe that became commonplace in the area.
